HLR Schools Trespa Cladding

The three schools were Longdean School, Bishops Hatfield Girls School and Stopsley High School, as part of the Herfordshire, Luton and Reading Schools project.

The project ran smoothly from the design of the framing and cladding panels to the completion of the installation.

There were a few issues with coordinating with other trades but working in conjunction with the site teams and other contractors these issues were easily resolved.

We were involved in pricing the sfs and cladding works and negotiated the package with the Main Contractor Montage Construction.

The project is to install additional classrooms at first floor level built over an existing building which remained open and operational throughout the contract.

The large frame is self supporting and includes gable walls and large roof spans with sfs components of over 10m span. There is no  hot rolled steel or other components so the entire 1st floor is built using Metsec sfs. The works were installed progressively and by careful co-ordination and more than a little effort the frame and sheathing including plywood onto roof areas were completed within 2 weeks to provide a weatherproof shell for the Main Contractor to progress his works.

Weatherseal advised the design team on the render works and after careful consideration the specification was changed to provide a more cost effective and non combustible mineral wool system utilised.

Weatherseal were pleased to undertake this project having previously enjoyed completing a large school scheme with the same contractor at Priors Hall, Corby.

Watson & Cox entered into negotiations and were confident in our ability to offer facade options with the HPL cladding and insulated render systems with all associated trims completed by Weatherseal. We experienced some site issues including a building that was larger than shown on the drawings but working with the contractor during the winter months we managed to complete works within programme and to agreed budgets.

The Main Contractor has already placed an order for another contract and we look forward to progressing this scheme in due course.

Rugby Radio School – Metsec SFS Framing

Location iconRugby, CV23 0AB

Web address of clientwww.stepnell.co.uk

Project duration and date  3 month project, 2017     £150K

Project typeMetsec SFS framing

This is a new school being built on the edges of Rugby within the Houlton development.  Houlton is a large residential development which is being constructed over the next 5 years.   The site is where the iconic M1 Radio Masts were, since 1926. The first transatlantic phone call was sent from this site to the USA in 1927.

Stepnell employed Weatherseal to supply and install the Metsec sfs and the works were a challenge that kept us busy. There was not a single panel or area that was repeated with a wide range of steel sections (both thicknesses and sections) used on the project. Our works package increased during the works so that we installed steel angles, supports, sheathing boards, insulation, roof edges, fire barriers, airtight membranes and assisted Stepnell to install and undertake works to co-ordinate the various trades. The finished scheme will provide a landmark building on the new development with the school (St Gabriels)  scheduled to open In September 2017.

Barn Conversion – SFS and Insulated Render

From a shed w200 year old Dutch Barnith just a roof in a field to a beautiful home with landscaped garden!  The Architects vision was to create a home that would be overlooking the wonderful Warwickshire countryside.

SFS framing as Metsec Weatherseal Facades carried out SFS framing, sheathing and Insulated Render to transform this Dutch barn.   There were complications during the conversion mainly down to the floor slab but once the SFS design was confirmed the walls were installed quite quickly which then gave a platform for the sheathing board and the insulated render to complete the aesthetics of the building.
